Nagarhole National Park also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park is one of Karnataka’s best wildlife getaways, blessed with rich wildlife, attractive jungle and a scenic lake. The park is located 93 km away from Mysore and home to elephants, wild dogs, gaur and tigers. The dense tropical forest is situated between the Mysore plateau in Karnataka and the Nilgiri mountains of Tamil Nadu.
Nagarahole was an exclusive hunting reserve of the former rulers of Mysore. The park is also a part of the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve, and is being considered by the UNESCO for selection as a World Heritage Site along with the Western Ghats. Due to high levels of rainfall in this region, the park consists of numerous open grassy swamps lined with teak and eucalyptus.
