We offer a personal service that only a very small, family-owned and managed, five-star, luxury guest house and boutique Hotel can give. From this retreat, guests can stroll to the village centre and explore its famous restaurants.

Room
Suites & Guesthouses There are three guest cottages, each with its own private pool surrounded by the garden's rambling hedges and trees; the feel is as intimate outside as it is within the houses themselves. There are also three suites: two in the Cape-Dutch style main house and one in a freestanding building adjacent to this. These suites share a large solar-heated pool. All have been decorated with an appealing mix of antique and contemporary furnishings.
Twyfeling A
Twyfeling is a gracious Cape Dutch style house with a large living room, a library and the HOTEL'S reception and breakfast areas. It has two private, large and light-filled bedroom suites at opposite ends of the house.
Twyfeling A is completely self-contained with an extra length king size bed (TWIN BEDS can be organized instead at prior notice). This suite leads out to the lovely garden and the large solar-heated pool. It has a stunning, spacious, glass- roofed bathroom.
The two Twyfeling suites share the pool and garden with the suite Uitsig.

Twyfeling is a gracious Cape Dutch style house with a large living room, a library and the HOTEL'S reception and breakfast areas. It has two private, large and light-filled bedroom suites at opposite ends of the house.
Twyfeling B is completely self-contained with an extra length king size bed (TWIN BEDS can be organized instead at prior notice). This suite suite has a private conservatory room attached with views to the mountain and over the water trough / fountain.
The two Twyfeling suites share the pool and garden with the suite Uitsig.
Uitsig
Uitsig, a private upstairs suite, gives wonderfully comfortable, spacious ACCOMMODATION. The French doors open onto a sun-baked balcony with a lovely view of the mountains encircling Franschhoek. One feels as if one is floating in the tree tops. The bath and separate shower are in an ultra modern bathroom with under floor heating. The king size, extra length bed can be replaced by twin extra length beds on prior notice.
Uitsig shares a large solar heated pool and lovely garden with the two suites in Twyfeling.
Oortuiging
When it comes to Franschhoek accommodation few places can match Oortuiging’s history. Oortuiging is an atmospheric Franschhoek cottage built in the 1860's. It adds interest to the Akademie Street BOUTIQUE HOTEL collection as it played a role in the history of Franschhoek during the Anglo-Boer war. It has two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen and a dining room.
This guest house in Franshoek can accommodate two persons sharing in spacious luxury and has its own pool and private shade and sun gardens. The guest house has accommodation for three persons. The main bedroom has an extra length king size bed but with prior notice TWIN BEDS can be arranged. A third person can be accommodated in the small second bedroom. The house is in the shade of a giant white stinkwood tree yet one can lie, if one chooses, in the sun in the private pool garden.
Gelatenheid
Gelatenheid is a gloriously spacious double storey guest house with a wide balcony and superb mountain views over the Franschoek Winelands. It has an extra large loft incorporating the bed/dressing/sitting room with an extra length king size bed (or twin extra length beds on prior notice), TV and en-suite bathroom. This is guest house and boutique hotel accommodation at its most spacious.
In a quiet corner of the balcony of this Franschhoek guest house a Victorian bath rests under the tree tops. Downstairs is a lounge and kitchenette with French doors leading out onto a veranda and the large pool and fountain garden.
Vreugde
Vreugde is a garden suite that sleeps two in an extra length king size bed but with prior notice twin beds can be organized. The bath and shower are separate, there is a small kitchenette and French doors open onto a wide veranda with a beautiful garden and small pool. Vreugde guest house offers both tranquillity and peace.
One can lounge on the leather sofa on the porch listening to the birds and the singing of the fountain. This is a very intimate, private place in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, the loveliest part of the Winelands area of the Western Cape.

Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and Guest House is in the heart of the "food and wine capital of the Cape". Many people visit just to eat at the famous Franschhoek restaurants, some situated on the wine farms, some attached to the hotels and some independent ones in the village itself. This means that particularly during the high season (1 October to 30 April) it can be impossible to get into the restaurant of your choice without prior booking. You might wish to book ahead using the e-mail addresses given. If phoning from outside South Africa leave out the 0 at the beginning and substitute +27 instead.
Recreation
There are many activities and things to do in Franschhoek from hiking to sitting at the side walk cafes and watching the world go by. A list follows of some of the more obvious things to do. On top of that Franschhoek has nearly 40 restaurants or sidewalk cafes, several of them world-famous, where one can idle one’s time away. Franschhoek is peaceful, safe to walk even at night and has no traffic problems. One can ride by bicycle or by horse or can take the open wine tram to to taste wine or hike in the glorious mountain reserve or fly fish all within minutes of the village. So unless you like living out of a suitcase think of staying in Franschhoek and then visiting the rest of the area on day trips!

They are all a few minutes’ drive from Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and Guest House. You can also visit several of them by bicycle or on horseback. You can also book the Franschhoek Wine Tram [email protected]. Of course the best way is to hire a car or let us organise transport or specialised tours for you. Generally it is more fun and cheaper to self-drive but if you wish to be picked up from somewhere or taken on day trips we can organise this for you.
