Chaaya Wild is situated at Kirinda, bordering the Yala Wildlife Sanctuary and the Indian Ocean, on the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka. Spanning 10 acres of jungle and endless miles of beach, the Chaaya Wild is truly a nature resort of untamed beauty and unmatched luxury. Step out into the jungle from your luxury chalet to watch the elephants walking by or the illusive leopard sunning itself on the rocky outcrop close by.
Enjoy a sip at our watering hole (the Pool Bar) and a ‘bite’ at our Restaurant. Our observation deck is available for those who wish to get a bird’s eye view of the breathtaking area. But tread carefully. You are at the Chaaya Wild. Where Elephants roam-FREE.

Room

Who knew watching your neighbours sunbathe could be this enthralling? The sprawling landscapes surrounding chaaya wild (Former Yala Village), provide more than enough game for hungry eyes. The rustic luxury of the rooms at our 4 Star accommodation will surely transcend your expectations, and many a lucky visitor has seen leopard on the rocks which border the hotel. Chaaya Wild Yala houses 68 Jungle Chalets and 08 Beach Chalets. The rooms are designed and furnished to provide the best comfort and all the modern facilities despite being lost in the wild. Accommodation at Chaaya Wild Yala will have wooden floors and interiors that resemble a camp, with textures and materials such as canvas, abstract animal prints that highlights a rugged, rustic look.

Beach Chalets

The 08 Beach Chalets (365 sqft) are architecturally beautiful to observe, constructed on stilts for an unadulterated view of the sea and scrub surrounds, even though a guest is very aware of being deep down south amidst the brush. The entire structure is built of wood in keeping with the theme of rustic luxury.

Jungle Chalets

60 Jungle Chalets (480 sqft) are equipped with all luxury four star amenities. The design element infuses a slightly more nostalgic game lodge style feel with camp styled furniture, mosquito net draped beds, woven palmyrah accessories and botanical and animal prints adorning the walls, while the floors have been carefully recycled. The decor and interiors are designed to represent a rustic game lodge with well-appointed rooms, the brand promises..

Excursions

Leopard Safari with Nature Trails It is said that Yala's Block 1 could be home to the densest population of leopards in the world; from the time BBC filmed them a decade back on leopard hunters to-date, the densities in this tiny area has maintained around a leopard every 2 Sq. Kilometres, that compares extremely highly with all its competition. Nature Trails led by Chitral Jayatilake and his dedicated team takes leopard safaris to the next level, these men study the leopard distribution at Block 1 and understand their territories deeper. When you have to track an animal as stealthy and intelligent as the Leopard, its best you work with the pros on the field as your chances of seeing this Top Cat grows rapidly in the hands of a great tracker. With the unmatched skills of our guides to track these majestic beasts of the wild, it is our promise to assist you in watching and photographing these wonderful cats.  Jonathan & Angela Scott, the celebrated wildlife photographers, while on safari with Nature Trails tagged Yala most eloquently. Angela said: "if God created a patch of land for leopards, it must be Yala!"  It's time for you to head on Safari with the best. Nature Trail at Wild 0 acres of sprawling shrub jungle is the stage on which Chaaya Wild sits, which is already home to elephants, resident leopards and a host of wilderness. Your safari begins at the time of check -in, and the resident naturalists will walk you through a nature trail that helps you see the diversity of this terrain much closer. Trek the rocky outcrops, watch the Basses at sea and climb down towards the Great dunes that protected this location from the Tsunami. The dainty sea crabs along the way, Terns and shore birds and the excitement of seeing a Mugger Croc on the lake all bundled up into a refreshing nature walk in the company of Nature Trails. Let us help you discover what's truly Wild and free. Chena Visit from Wild Witness traditional farming methods of the slash and burn kind that the nearby village folk depend on to keep their home fires burning. The practice once considered harmful to the environment, is now hailed as a method of creating new feeding grounds for the surrounding wildlife once the land is abandoned by the farmers. Take a hike into their world in the trailer of a motorized hand tractor, which is used to transport produce to the village markets; take a peek into the temporary huts constructed of woven palm leaves by the chena farmers; assist them in harvesting their crops and finally nibble on a sweet slice of water melon plucked from the very wines you are surrounded by, all within an hour or two. Wader-watching Guests can stroll by the Palatupana saltern, shaded by towering palm trees, to witness a variety of wading bird species ranging from Terns to Sandpipers, Godwits and the rare Black-necked Stalk. The saltern is also home to forest bird species such as the Yellow-orange Crested Spoonbill and the Redshank, just to name a few. The tour could be undertaken both early morning and in the evening (leaving the hotel at either 0700hrs or 1630hrs) and wind up in approximately 2 hours. For bird lovers and for those in need of stunning visual images of synchronized movements of our feathered friends with little time to spare, this is bound to be the perfect setting – yet another adventure of the feathered kind with Nature Trails. Three Lakes - Re-visited Take an early morning walk along the bund of the Debara Weva, a large lake that supports a diversified eco-system. Your breakfast packs will be ready at the time of departure from the hotel in order to be at the lake as its inhabitants wake up. Guests can have their breakfast on the grass by the wayside in the cool shade of a Kohomba tree, in full view of the seemingly endless expanse of lake, the distant mountain range, and the paddy fields, tilled by a solitary farmer. Whiff in the true fragrance of the bordering village which will linger in your memories of the simple beauty that is Debara Wewa. Visit the Weerawila Tank, in search of more water birds, set ourselves up with Binoculars, Field scope, Bird watching guide and a naturalist who speaks bird... a morning spent in heavenly peaceful environs … all from Chaaya Wild. Camera Trap Setting A little too tired to roam around the 10 acres of dry zone wilderness, but anxious to discover the intruders tapping at your window or creating havoc by your room at night? The naturalists at our hotel will assist you in satisfying your curiosity by setting up special infrared cameras to freeze the nocturnal intruders on camera with no disturbance to you or your furry friends. Discover what walks by your room at night... intriguing for the curious children and for those who are young at heart. Night drive with Nocturnal Vision With the experience gathered by working with National Geographic recently, we intend on offering a new experience to the more adventurous visitors. This includes a mini night safari along the forest roads outside the National Park, using no artificial lights. We negotiate ourselves on infrared vision to see the nocturnal life that surrounds us. Join our naturalists and look in to the wild at night like a Leopard, with true night vision ability… . What you see might never be forgotten.
